Beautiful Home Made Bread In The Slow Cooker

One of the nicest smells in the world is that of fresh bread being cooked first thing in the morning. I used to have a bread maker, that you could set up the evening before, and it was probably the best alarm clock I ever had. I mean who wants to lie in bed when the beautiful aroma of freshly cooked bread is spreading around the house.

But bread makers can be expensive and they also fall into the category like so many other kitchen devices of items you use for a few days, and then just gather dust. So when I discovered this recipe that uses my old faithful slow cooker it was music to my ears. And when you see the recipe and watch the video this is almost too easy to make. Realistically all you need to do is make the dough, and then put it in the slow cooker for two hours and it’s job done. Now obviously I have simplified that just a little but not by much. My aim here is to remove the barrier to entry and get you to try it once, because once you understand how simple it is, you will be making bread on a daily basis, and it tastes so good. Watch the video below and then try it for yourself.

Here’s the ingredient list:
1 teaspoon Active Dry Yeast
1&1/2 teaspoons of Salt
1&1/2 cups warm water
3+ cups flour

Make sure to also have parchment paper (not wax) on hand. According to a YouTube commenter, “You should use parchment paper so that the wax (paraffin, actually) doesn’t melt into the bread… parchment paper can stand 550 F, and the crock pot only goes to around 200 F: you can put a towel on the lid of the crock pot to raise the temp inside the crock pot.”
