This Beautiful Butterfly Cake Is Perfect for Any Birthday Party

I don’t know about you, but when it comes to birthday cakes around my household, they tend to be rather plain. Although we may throw something together out of the box and then spread some frosting out of a candle in it, it seems to be lacking in originality, at best. Now that I’ve seen this video on how to make the perfect butterfly cake, I will never have an ordinary cake at my house again.

• 10″ square cake – made using 1 1/2 batches of our Vanilla bean & Rosewater cake cut into 2 layers, each 26mm (1 1/16″)
• 1225g (2lb 11oz) Sweet buttercream – 420g (14.8oz) light blue (3 parts Wilton Royal Blue 1 part Americolor Electric Blue) – 50g (1.7oz) dark blue (5 parts Wilton Royal Blue 1 part Americolor Electric Blue) – 75g (2.6oz) light purple (equal parts Americolor Electric Purple and Wilton Violet) – 100g (3.5oz) dark purple (equal parts Americolor Electric Purple and Wilton Violet) – 250g (8.8oz) grey (Americolor Super Black) – 80g (2.8oz) black (Americolor Super Black) – 40g (1.4oz) white (Wilton Whitener)
• 14″ square cake board
• 3 Piping bags
• 3 Couplers
• Piping tips 2, 3, 10 – 2 for the white, black, 3 for the blue
• Large spatula
• Turntable (optional)
