What comes to your mind when you think about making an easy meal? For many people, an easy meal is throwing something in the crockpot and letting it do the work for you. Other people may think about making Ramen noodles or perhaps some spaghetti. Yes, those are some simple ideas but what if I were to tell you that you could make pork dumplings for dinner from scratch and they would be just as easy?
Many of us enjoy eating Asian food and we may eat takeout on a regular basis. This is one of those Asian dishes that combines the flavors that we love but it is made at home, rather than being made at a restaurant somewhere. Since it is so easy to make, we will find that we are saving time and money and we know exactly what goes into it. These dumplings are delicious!
Ingredients:
1/2 pound ground pork
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon Chinese 5 spice
2 tablespoons green onion, finely sliced
1 package round wonton wrappers
2/3 cup soy sauce
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon sriracha
1 orange, zested and juiced
1 tablespoon sesame oil
Salt & pepper to taste
Directions:
Mix first 5 ingredients together, season, and set aside.
Mix soy sauce, sugar, sriracha and juice together in a saucepan over medium heat, and reduce to a loose glaze.
Lay wonton wrappers down and spoon 1 tablespoon of pork mixture into each wonton. Brush edges with water, fold and crimp edges closed.
Heat non-stick pan on medium high temperature. Add sesame oil to coat pan and add dumplings one at a time, bottom end first. Once all dumplings are added, add 1/2 cup of water, reduce heat to medium-low and cover for 3-4 minutes.
Remove sear-steamed dumplings from pan, put on a serving dish with Ponzu sauce and enjoy!
