Make Your Very Own Delicious Kentucky Hot Sandwich

One of my all time favourite meals is lasagne. The combined taste of all the different layers, as well as the beautifully compact way it is cooked all within one dish, means that not only is it delicious, but the washing up afterwards is also minimised.
When I first saw this recipe it reminded me of lasagne so in my mind, it is kind of an American take on the Italian dish. For those of you, like myself not in the know, a Hot Brown is warm layers of turkey and bacon, between slices of pizza dough, with the obligatory cheese and tomato to really make it pop. Hopefully, you can see now why it made me think of lasagne.

The recipe itself is relatively simple to make, and if you want to add a little song to it, people tell me that you should add Mornay sauce, which to me sounds like a winner. Either way for me the beauty of dishes like this is you are free to experiment and alter the recipe slightly to your own taste. I have tried this and it is lip-smackingly delicious. So follow the recipe and video below, and let us know in the comments how you got on.

KENTUCKY HOT BROWN SANDWICH
Serves 4

You’ll Need
– 1 roll refrigerated pizza dough
– 1-pound package smoked turkey lunch meat
– 8 slices cooked bacon
– 8 slices Swiss cheese
– 3 Roma tomatoes, sliced thin
– 2 eggs, beaten

How To

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius).
Unroll the pizza dough and cut in half.
Place one piece of the pizza dough in the bottom of an 8-inch pan. Press the dough to the edges, covering the entire bottom of the pan.
Layer with half the turkey, bacon, and cheese, and all of the tomato.
Repeat the layers of turkey, bacon and cheese.
Top with the remaining piece of pizza dough.
Pour the beaten eggs over the top.
Bake for 30 minutes, until golden brown.
Let cool slightly, then cut into four squares and enjoy.
How good does THAT look? Do you think you’ll give this version of the classic hot sandwich a try? What other ways do you like to enjoy Kentucky Hot Browns?
