Try This Crockpot French Onion Soup Recipe For Dinner Tonight

There are almost an endless variety of soups to choose from. For some people, tomato soup may be on the menu and for others, it could be a good italian soup. Something that most soup lovers agree on is how delicious a good bowl of french onion soup is but for most people, it is only something they grab when they are out to eat. That is about to change.

If you are someone who loves their slow cooker, you are going to flip over this recipe. It makes the perfect bowl of french onion soup and it does it right from the crockpot. When you see how easy it is to make, you will want to make it often. When you taste it, you will want to make it every day.

Ingredients:

4 lbs yellow onions, peeled and chopped
10 cups beef broth
1 bay leaf
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
1 baguette, diagonally and toasted
1 1/2 cups Gryere or swiss cheese, grated or sliced
Minced chives, for garnish

Directions:

In a large skillet, cook the onions, butter and olive oil over a medium heat until the onions start to caramelize.

Pour the cooked onions into the slow cooker and cover with the beef broth.

Add the bay leaf and salt and pepper to taste.

In a small bowl, whisk together balsamic vinegar and Worcestershire sauce and mix until smooth, then poor into the slow cooker.

Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or on high for 3-4 hours.

Scoop the soup into oven-safe bowls, then top with one slice of bread and some cheese. Broil for 5 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly.

Top with chives and enjoy!
