There are many different types of food that we might remember from when we were younger. Many of them tend to bring things back to our mind that we might not have thought about for many years. A good example of this type of food is any type of baked apple, because it is both delicious and nostalgic. If you are somebody that loves the taste of baked apple, just wait to you see this recipe.
Sitting down to a plate of Apple dumplings is a treat but when they are Apple dumplings made from crescent rolls with an extra hint of sweetness, it is going to take you back to your youth very quickly. This is a very easy dish to make and when you add the secret ingredient, 7-Up, you will find that it makes them the stickiest, most caramelized and delicious dumplings you’ve ever had.
Ingredients:
2 (8 each) cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
2 sticks of butter
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon cinnamon or to taste
12 ounces 7 Up (or Mountain Dew)
2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and cored
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and butter a 9×13 baking dish.
Wash the apples, peel and cut into eight equal slices.
Unwrap the crescent roll and separate the triangles.
Place a piece of apple on each triangle of dough (on a wider side) and roll it in a croissant.
Place rolls inside buttered baking dish.
In a separate bowl, combine the butter, cinnamon, sugar and vanilla, mix until you get a liquid mixture without lumps and pour over the rolls.
Pour soda between rolls (but not over) and bake for 35-45 minutes, or until they become golden brown.
Serve immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
