Make This Yummy Halloween Candy Puppy Chow

What is your favorite thing about Halloween? It seems to be different for everyone, with some people enjoying the festivities and others enjoying getting dressed up in a costume. Although there may be many different things that people appreciate about Halloween, one that they tend to agree on is the fact that there is lots of good candy available. When October 31 rolls around this year, be sure that you try this recipe because it is certain to be a hit.

Admittedly, you can save yourself a little bit of time and go buy a bag of snicker bars at the grocery store, but that is not very creative. On the other hand, this Halloween candy puppy chow is absolutely perfect to nosh on or to give as a gift to friends and family. It is the ultimate sweet treat, because it combines everything that is commonly consumed at the end of October.

Although they call this puppy chow, you certainly would not want to feed it to your dog. Dogs have severe issues with chocolate, and it could make them very sick. On the other hand, if you love chocolate, and most people do, feel free to enjoy this sweet treat as much as you like.

Ingredients:

10 full-sized Butterfingers
1/4 cup peanut butter
10 Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
8 cups Chex cereal
2/3 cup powdered sugar, divided
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1/4 cup candy corn
1/4 cup Reese’s Pieces

Directions:

1. Shave chocolate off of Butterfingers into a large, microwave-safe bowl. Place “naked” Butterfingers into a food processor and process into fine crumbs.

2. Along with the Butterfinger chocolate, melt together peanut butter and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups either in a double boiler or in the microwave in 30-second intervals. Stir until combined and smooth (or after each interval in the microwave).

3. Toss in Chex cereal until evenly coated in melted chocolate.

4. Roll open 3 large plastic zipper bags. In one bag, add 1/3 cup powdered sugar. In the second bag, add 1/3 cup powdered sugar and cocoa powder. In the third bag, add the Butterfinger crumbs. Divide the Chex into the 3 bags, seal bags, and shake each bag until completely coated.

5. Toss Chex mix with candy corn and Reese’s Pieces and serve.
